Power of a diversity data driven approach to inclusion

Power of a diversity data driven approach to inclusion

A survey by CIPD reveals that whilst businesses collect data on recruitment, diversity, L&D and wellbeing, few actually review it.

Imagine all that data and what it can tell your business, highlighting most critical issues that need addressing!

Of the 46% of organisations that collected diversity data, only one fifth (24%) said they reviewed it regularly.

However many HR teams are stretched and under pressure often juggling lots of competing priorities and the ability to collect, analyse and review the data is a key skill in itself that isn’t automatically a skill all HR teams have.

People data is the key to understanding workplace inclusion critical issues and needs to be woven into discussions at senior management level if this is to be improved.

So what can you do to establish a data driven approach?

  • Be clear on your WHY- highlight the benefits of using workforce diversity data to help inform your ED&I ambitions as an employer.

  • Know what you’re going to do with the data. There’s no point collecting data unless you do something with it. Key things to use data for include measuring the impact of your hiring efforts to attract more diverse talent, identify any barriers certain groups face in the workforce at each stage of the employee journey and understand where to prioritise efforts and resources.

  • Communicate what you have done as a result. This will build trust and and awareness that you’re not just doing this to tick a box. Employees start to recognise that as an employer you’re serious about building a more inclusive culture.

  • Keep it simple: make it easy for employees to fill in the survey and the survey clearly articulates why you’re asking for their data.

This is exactly what we’ll be exploring in our next roundtable: The Power of Diversity Data on Friday 25th April, 12 to 1 pm (BST) via Zoom.

We’ll be talking about why diversity data matters, exploring the challenges and opportunities of using diversity data to drive meaningful change and learn simple ways to use the data to get buy in, set priorities and report on progress.

If you're curious or grappling with where to start—or how to take your next step—we’d love for you to join the conversation.

Tickets are £10 per person (includes recording plus exclusive 10% discount off your next booking with Inclusion 365).
